ZAGREB, Aug 13 (Hina) - During the Serb aggression against Croatia, several sacral buildings were damaged. One of these was the church in the Vukovar suburb of Sotin. Croat emigrants in Australia and New Zealand have collected almost
AUD280K for the reconstruction of that particular church. The collection was organised by the Central national committee of the Humanitarian Foundation for Vukovar with the assistance of Croatian diplomatic-consular representations in Australia and New Zealand. A cheques amounting to AU$278,429 (approx. 334,000DM) was handed over in Zagreb by a representative of the Vukovar Foundation, Vicko Potrebica to assistant minister of development, immigration and reconstruction Ivan Hodalic Potrebica thanked the numerous associations, clubs and individuals who participated in this fund drive. AUD280K for the reconstruction of that particular church.
The collection was organised by the Central national committee of
the Humanitarian Foundation for Vukovar with the assistance of

Potrebica thanked the numerous associations, clubs and individuals
who participated in this fund drive. He condemned the Serb
aggression which caused extensive destruction to the town on
Vukovar and numerous other towns around Croatia.
The current Ambassador to Australia Jozo Meter said that the funds
collected will not be enough to cover the complete reconstruction
of the church however, the most urgent repairs will be possible to
avoid any further deterioration.
He explained that the largest single contribution was made by Toni
Habjan, a Croat who recently won first prize in Tattslotto.
Assistant minister Hodalic and the Sotin parish priest Zlatko
Rajcevac along with a representative of the Vukovar-Srijem County,
Ante Sliskovic, expressed their gratitude for the valued
donation.
Reconstruction of the Sotin church has still not commenced and it is
estimated that reconstruction could amount to 3 million kunas
(approx. 750K DM).
