Dinko Sakic, a commander of the World War II concentration camp of
Jasenovac, is being tried before the Zagreb County Court for war
crimes against civilian population.
Kos said he did not know how much the trial would cost, adding that
"some things cannot be expressed in terms of money".
"To establish, process and punish any crime, regardless of the time
it was committed at, is of vital importance", Kos added.
According to Kos, the main hearing, to continue on July 5, will see
the presentation of evidence by Sakic's defence, that is, the
testimonies of Josip Jurcevic and Tibor Lovrencic, a former inmate
who has already testified. After the two men are heard, the panel of
judges will decide whether another former inmate, Dervis Sarac,
should testify again.
After the defence present its evidence, Sakic will again have the
opportunity to amend it before the panel of judges.
If there is no new evidence or changes to the indictment, the
parties will present their closing arguments, after which the panel
of judges will reach the verdict. The parties will have the right to
appeal against the verdict to the Supreme Court.
