VUKOVAR MAYOR OPPOSES BLOCKAGE OF ROADS BY PEASANTS VUKOVAR, June 29 (Hina) - The mayor of eastern Croatian town of Vukovar, Vladimir Stengl, called on protesting peasants to express their dissatisfaction in a way other than blocking
roads. In a letter to the president of the Croatian Peasants' Alliance, which organised the protests, Stengl said he recognised the reasons for the peasants' protests, but cannot reconcile himself with the fact that the residents of Vukovar, returnees to this town, are "once again separated from the rest of the homeland". "If anybody, after all these years of creating an independent, sovereign and democratic Croatia, had reason and justification to stand up for justice, it was the war victims from Vukovar. However, aware of the position in which our country is, we chose realistic paths and ways to get to our Vukovar after seven long years. And we have done so," Stengl said in his letter, calling on the protesters to achieve their right
