ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - The Office for the National Security (UNS)
on Thursday stated that a former head of the Croatian Intelligence
Service (HIS) and a former Justice Minister, Miroslav Separovic,
"deluded the public by speaking of vested rights which he has after
leaving the post" in his statement published in the June 9 issue of
the "Jutarnji list" daily.
Separovic claimed that one year after leaving the function he has
the right to use the HIS safe, an official car, mobile telephone and
an alarm system in the flat.
The UNS statement said none of laws or other acts regulate this
issue.
In line with the law on obligations and rights of state officials,
Separovic, as a former official, has the right to receive a salary
no longer than one year after the cessation of carrying out duties.
"At the personal request of Mr. Miroslav Separovic, forwarded to
the HIS head, and due to the fact that he does not posses a personal
car or his own mobile telephone, he received approval for using an
HIS car and mobile telephone for several months. After leaving the
post, Miroslav Separovic sold the flat which was protected by the
alarm system in the ownership of the HIS, and, thus, he did damage of
some 30,000 kuna to the HIS," the statement read.
M. Separovic said he had the obligation of keeping a state secret
five (5) years after leaving the post and that in the safe there were
copies of things which he inherited from a former HIS head (his
predecessor) Miroslav Tudjman. Separovic, however, failed to
mention that the obligation to keep the state secret did not allow
him to retain in the private possession official documents or
copies of documents qualified as a state, military or official
secret, after he leaves the post, the statement added.
None of officials or employees in the UNS system has the right to
keep documents or copies of documents qualified as a state,
military or official secret in the private possession, it
explained.
Miroslav Tudjman handed over properly his post to Miroslav
Separovic in the HIS offices and not privately what might be
concluded from Separovic's interview, the UNS statement read and
denied Separovic's claim that Miroslav Tudjman is also using the
official safe of the HIS.
