RIJEKA, June 5 (Hina) - Croatian and Slovenian earth and air fire-fighting troops held an inter-state exhibit exercise "Fire '99" on the borderland between the two countries Saturday. Attending the exercise were Croatian and Slovene
Interior Ministers Ivan Penic and Borut Suklje, as well as Slovene Defence Minister Franci Demsar. The exercise was held in line with an agreement signed by the two countries in Ljubljana in 1997, on a joint effort to fight natural hazard. On the Croatian side, participating were professional and volunteer fire-fighters from Rijeka, Opatija, Klana and Skalnica, members of civil defence, fire-fighting helicopters and two Canadair planes. Croatia is well equipped for this summer with well-trained
personnel, equipment, but also a lot of heart and will to defend its
coast from fire hazard, Penic stressed.
He expressed satisfaction with preventive fire-fighting measures
undertaken.
Slovenia's ministers Suklje and Demsar expressed satisfaction with
the fact that Croatia and Slovenia, through this exercise shower
their readiness and ability to jointly fight against natural
hazard.
