SARAJEVO, May 28 (Hina) - Two days ago the Yugoslav army made an
incursion into the territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina and captured
six Stabilisation Force (SFOR) soldiers who were conducting a
regular patrol in the border region between the two countries, the
head of the SFOR press centre in Sarajevo, Colonel Lee Hockman, told
Hina on Friday.
According to Hockman, the incident occurred in the municipality of
Rudo in the eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina on the road between Sarajevo
and Priboj in Serbia.
The Yugoslav army entered Bosnian territory during the evening
hours of May 26 and captured and disarmed an SFOR patrol.
Colonel Hockman said the six SFOR soldiers together with their
vehicle were transferred to Yugoslav territory and were held there
for questioning for more than eight hours, after which they were
released.
"Some of the soldiers were physically abused and received minor
injuries", Hockman said.
He stressed that this incursion by the Yugoslav army into Bosnian
territory was a violation of territorial sovereignty and also of
the Dayton accord.
The SFOR official believes that a large portion of responsibility
for the incident lies with Republika Srpska because the Bosnian
Serb authorities are responsible for monitoring the state border in
that section of the country, which is part of the Bosnian Serb
entity.
The authorities in Republika Srpska were informed of the incident
as was the headquarters of their military component.
