Rabbi Dadon recommended the book both to Jews and to those who are interested in the religion, philosophy and customs of the Jewish people. ZAGREB, May 16 (Hina) - A book entitled "Alef Bet of Judaism (Alef
Bet židovstva), by Julija Kos, was presented in Zagreb on Friday.
Speaking at the first public promotion of the book, held in the
Jewish Community in Zagreb, the Chief Rabbi in Croatia, Kotel
Dadon, said the author Julija Kos had presented the Jewish religion
at a high level thanks to her excellent writing skills.
Rabbi Dadon recommended the book both to Jews and to those who are
interested in the religion, philosophy and customs of the Jewish
people.
He voiced satisfaction with the fact that this book had appeared
soon after the recent publishing of "Shabbat Shalom (Šabat Šalom)"
by the author, Jasminka Domas. For Rabbi Dadon, this is the
confirmation of the "religious Renaissance" of the Jewish
community in Zagreb and Croatia after six decades and the times when
the "Book of Prayers (Molitvenik)" by Rabbi Freiberger had been
issued.
Marin Zazinovic, a professor at the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy,
expressed his opinion that Kos's book should be used in classes of
religion. Professor Zazinovic said this book, thanks to the clarity
of the author's writing, could help remove prejudice and contribute
to the better knowledge of the Jewish religion.
He suggested that "Alef Bet židovstva" should be translated into
English.
The writer, Julija Kos, said her intention was to present basic
concepts of Judaism in a concise and systematic way. In addition,
she wanted to enrich a small collection of books on Judaism for non-
Jews.
Her book contains an overview of Jewish holidays, symbols but also
some of the Jewish humour.
Julia Kos is the chief librarian at the Jewish Community in the
Croatian capital.
