ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - The countries of south-east Europe should
work on stabilising the region and the whole continent by
harmonising their policies and adopting joint views, a French
Foreign Minister's envoy Michel Foucher and a Croatian Parliament
vice-president Zarko Domljan stated in Zagreb on Tuesday.
Europe is not aspiring towards any form of political integration of
south-east Europe, but towards "the establishment of trade and
traffic links" and the creation of "favourable mutual dependence"
between the states in the region, said Foucher.
All east-European states should work towards approaching European
institutions and alleviate the existing tensions, Foucher said
during a discussion on the Kosovo crisis.
The Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, whose policy has been
causing crises on the territory of the former Yugoslavia for eight
years, should be defeated, Domljan, also the president of the
parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs, said.
Had Europe been able to react timely, the tragic wars could have
been prevented, Domljan added.
Speaking about the future of Yugoslavia, Foucher said France
supported a confederal solution.
Domljan supported the preservation of the existing borders, adding
it was necessary to find an institutional solution which would
enable Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia to establish links with the
European Union.
Domljan said one should differentiate between the Montenegrin
people, who have state tradition, and Kosovo Albanians, who deserve
a high degree of autonomy.
