ZAGREB, April 15 (Hina) - The president of the civil committee for
human rights (GOLJP), Zoran Pusic, on Thursday called on the
Croatian Government and non-government organisations to take a
more active role in helping Kosovar refugees.
"Besides help in food, clothing, tents and medicine, the Croatian
Government should send medical teams on the field and accept
between 5,000 and 10,000 refugees into existing camps in Croatia,"
Pusic said.
An advisor at the Macedonian Embassy in Zagreb, Vladimir Cupeski,
who was also present at the news conference in Zagreb, said
Macedonia has so far taken in 125,000 registered refugees, but
there are estimates there may be some 30,000 refugees in the country
who are unregistered. This makes up ten per cent of the Macedonian
population, Cupeski said.
He said he was embittered about an unjustified criticism and
pressure by some international humanitarian organisations which
have not been prepared in time for caring for the refugees.
"We are also embittered by a part of the Croatian media which
suggested that Serbs and Macedonians were collaborating against
Albanians, which is absolutely untrue," he stressed.
The problem between Macedonians and Macedonian Albanians has been
"imported" from Kosovo particularly during Milosevic's reign,
Cupeski claimed.
Reporter and photographer Bozidar Knezevic estimated that 62,000
refugees had arrived into Montenegro. This country needs
assistance in food, clothing and medicine, he added.
