PARIS, March 10 (Hina) - Croatian Ambassador to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Vesna Girardi-Jurkic, on Wednesday handed to UNESCO official, Munir Bouchenaki, a proposal for the inclusion of the
Tvrdja in the eastern city of Osijek into the World Heritage List. Tvrdja was a fortress constructed in beginning of the 18th century, and today is the unique urban complex in the centre of Osijek. The committee of the world heritage programme will decide on this proposal after being notified about a report drawn by its expert commission that should visit Osijek this year. During his meeting with the Croatian Ambassador, the head of the

that Baroque monument from eastern Croatia.
He pledged to see personally that these documents are carefully
viewed during the further procedure.
This official added that Croatia is an important partner in the
UNESCO programme for the world heritage
He also recounted how Croatia and UNESCO had cooperated in action of
protection of Dubrovnik during the Serbian aggression.
The UNESCO World Heritage list contains five items from Croatia -
the National Park of Plitvice Lakes, the downtown Split, the
downtown Dubrovnik, the Euphrasian Basilica in Porec, and the old
town of Trogir.
During 25 years of the conduct of the UNESCO programme for the world
heritage, a total of 582 cultural monuments and beauties of nature
have been added to this list.
