VUKOVAR, Feb 17 (Hina) - The Joint Council of (Serb majority) Municipalities in the Croatian Danube region called on local residents to hand over to the nearest police station any weapons and explosive devices they might be in illegal
possession of, in line with a Croatian Government decree dated January 1, 1999. The origin and how the weapons had been obtained will not be asked, the Joint Council said, stressing that personal information about the person who brings them in will not be taken, nor would legal or any other proceedings be initiated against him. "This action lasts until May 1, 1999 and its main aim is to improve the security situation in Croatia and decrease the number of incidents and accidents. Every piece of weapon which is turned in is another step towards mutual trust and reconciliation," the Joint Council of Municipalities said in its message.(hina) lml
