CROATIAN MINISTER RECEIVES UN SPECIAL HUMAN RIGHTS RAPPORTEUR

ZAGREB, Feb 12 (Hina) - UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Croatia, FR Yugoslavia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jiri Dienstbier, expressed concern about the stalled return of refugees to Croatia in the past several months. During talks with Croatian Reconstruction and Development Minister Jure Radic on Friday, Dienstbier cited examples of inappropriate care for some returnees of Serb nationality, the Reconstruction and Development Ministry said in a statement Friday. Radic expressed surprise that the recent reports of the international community kept mentioning a stagnation in the process of return in the last several months, as it was natural that people would be returning slower during winter months due to the harsh weather conditions, as well as because of the school year, the statement said. He also pointed to the fact that the return of refugees and displaced persons to Croatia had so far been carried out mostly with Croatia's funding, from the state budget (98 per cent).
