ZAGREB, Feb 10 (Hina) - Large Croatian companies, 528 of them, with about 340,690 employees, have earned a total of US$12.9 billion of income in the first nine months last year, which is 1.7 per cent more than in the same period of
1997, the Croatian Payment Transactions Bureau (ZAP) reported. The total pre-tax income amounted to US$494 million or 15.1 per cent less than in the first nine months of 1997. Pre-tax losses were 11.4 per cent higher and reached the amount of almost US$455 million. These data refer also to the companies which are of general public interest: Croatian Railways, Croatian Power Supply, Croatian Woods, Jadrolinija, Croatian Oil Industry, Croatian Post and Telecommunications, National Gazette and Croatian Radio and Television. The total pre-tax loss amounted to US$33.5 million or 30.6 per cent
less.
The highest income, amounting to US$271 million, was registered in
the processing industry, which also reported the highest loss, of
US$238 million.
