ZAGREB, Feb 1 (Hina) - Secretary-General of the ruling Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ), and MP, Drago Krpina, said on Monday that
talks on changes in the Government were nearing completion.
Final decisions will be known to the Croatian public very soon,
Krpina said.
"It depends on the decision of the President who has the authority
to relieve and appoint ministers," Krpina told reporters.
He said the Law on Government would need to be amended should the
number of ministries decrease.
Commenting on speculation that people from opposition parties
could take up some ministry terms, Krpina said the HDZ had never led
a narrow party policy, and there had been numerous examples of
ministries from other parties participating in the Government.
The issue of Government reconstruction is being discussed with
party belonging not being an exclusive criterion for nominations,
Krpina stressed.
The HDZ Parliament bench is preparing a resolution in which it will
point out its dissatisfaction and comments about the work of the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY),
he said.
"We will advocate that, if possible, all members of the
Parliament's House of Representatives adopt the text of the
resolution," Krpina said.
"It is concerning that nobody indicted of war crimes against Croats
in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina is in the Hague," he added.
The reason for dissatisfaction is the "obvious political dimension
in the work of the Hague Tribunal", Krpina stressed.
He described as unacceptable that the Tribunal was completely
ignoring the fact that there was an aggressor and a defender in
conflicts in the region of the former Yugoslavia.
"In the work of the Hague Tribunal so far, the aggressor has not been
only equalised with the victim, but, unfortunately, the Tribunal
primarily concerns itself with members of troops of a country which
was the main victim in that conflict, and we cannot accept this,"
Krpina stressed.
He warned that is was unacceptable that Croatia was being labelled
as uncooperative with the Tribunal, while countries who are
forwarding the criticism refuse the possibility and need of
establishing a permanent international war crimes tribunal.
