LONDON, Jan 26 (Hina) - Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, the London-based
subsidiary of the German commercial bank Dresdner Bank, which in
one of its publications published a map in which Croatia was
deprived of part of its coastal region, on Monday refused to name
the firm which printed the disputable map.
According to a Dresdner Kleinwort Benson official, the mistake in
the map had been caused by the human factor.
Caspar Murphly of Dresdner Kleinwort Benson said the mistake had
not been caused by the usage of faulty software but by a printer in
the firm which printed the map. However, he refused to name the
firm.
In the December issue of its quarterly publication "Central
Europe", Dresdner Kleinwort Benson published a map of Central
Europe, in which Croatia was deprived of a part of its territory in
Istria (northern Adriatic) and the whole of Dubrovnik area
(southern Adriatic). Croatia's territory in Istria was presented
as part of Slovenia, while the area of Dubrovnik was presented as
part of "Bosnia". By using the name Bosnia for Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Dresdner Kleinwort Benson has adopted the terminology
used by some American and Muslim political circles.
One of the bank's managers, Richard Cohill, said the Croatian
borders presented on the map were a printing mistake that had
occurred unintentionally.
Cohill said his bank believed it was giving strong support to
Croatia, adding that the Croatian Government had entrusted
Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, along with Credit Suisse, as syndicate
banks, to issue the first Croatian Euro-bond, denominated in the
euro, a venture to be carried out in February this year.
Another map, similar to the one published by Dresdner Kleinwort
Benson, appeared in the latest issue of the foreign affairs
magazine "Foreign Report", published by Jane's Information Group,
which is known for its military-political publications.
The Croatian embassy in London has protested against the increasing
number of maps which reduce Croatia's territory in letters to
editorial boards. Despite its efforts, the embassy has still not
discovered the source of the erroneous maps.
