QUESTIONING OF WITNESSES IN NADA SAKIC CASE COMPLETED

ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - An investigating judge of the Zagreb County Court on Monday completed an investigation against Nada Sakic, an Ustasha official suspected of war crimes against civilians during World War II. Sakic's court-appointed attorney Branko Seric told reporters the investigation had shed sufficient light on the case to determine whether charges could be filed or the investigation discontinued. He added the investigating judge would submit an investigation file to the County State Attorney's Office as early as Tuesday. According to Seric, within 15 days the investigating judge is obligated to propose further investigation, file charges, or drop charges. "Given that custody expires on February 2, I expect the State Attorney will take action within seven days", Seric said. Sakic's attorney asserted the investigating judge led the investigation very correctly and objectively, respecting proceedings r

Sakic's attorney asserted the investigating judge led the investigation very correctly and objectively, respecting proceedings regulations, and proceedings rights of all participants in the case, including his client's. "He worked very quickly, which did not damage the proceedings", Seric said, and reminded 27 witnesses were questioned. Argentina extradited Sakic to Croatia in November 2, 1998. (hina) it/ha jn
