ILOK, Jan 22 (Hina) - The day of St. Vincent, the patron saint of winegrowers and vineyards, was celebrated in the area of Ilok, eastern Croatia. The central ceremony was held in Principovac, near the border with Yugoslavia, where the
head of the Croatian state department for the nature and environment protection, Ante Kutle, marked the beginning of the 'winegrowing year' by cutting a grapevine. About 400 families in the area are engaged in grape growing, and 250 of them make a living only as winegrowers. The Ilok winegrowers are faced with problems, as the wine cellar in this eastern Croatian town has not yet paid them for grapes collected last autumn.(hina) ms
