ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - This year, a broker house "FIMA" signed a five-year contract on the general sponsorship for the protection of the griffon, a bird protected by the Croatian law, the magazine "Okolis" reported. The griffon is an
endangered species. Five thousand years ago, the Persians regarded the griffon as the royal bird. The protection of this bird in Croatia is carried out by the "Eko centar Caput Insulae-Beli" company on the island of Cres, the northern Adriatic, headed by Goran Susic, the best expert for griffons in Croatia. According to Susic, there are about from 250 to 300 male and female griffons in the country, and a half of them live on Cres. Their colonies enjoy the status of a special ornithological reserve on the island.
