ZAGREB, Dec 25 (Hina) - Zagreb Archbishop Josip Bozanic conducted
the Jubilee Christmas Mass at the Zagreb Cathedral on Sunday
morning.
The Archbishop's main messages were directed to needy children,
elderly and feeble persons, pensioners, parents who promote family
life, the jobless, young people who are seeking employment, and
displaced people and refugees who do not have their own homes.
Participating in the mass along with Archbishop Bozanic were
Cardinal Franjo Kuharic, apostolic nuncio Giulio Einaudi,
auxiliary Zagreb bishops Josip Mrzljak and Vlado Kosic and members
of the cathedral's choir.
Welcoming the gathered believers, including Croatian President
Stjepan Mesic, with Christ's greeting 'Peace be with you,' Bozanic
said today was a day of joy, hope and future for Christians.
In his sermon, Bozanic said Christmas was the beginning of a
movement which placed the entire humankind before the mystery of
Christ. Christmas is the original moment in which Christ was named
the only saviour of all and for all times, he said.
The son of God became a Man so that we could become humans the way God
wants us to be, Bozanic said. The child we see with the eyes of faith
calls on us, on our conscience, on the spark of good which is in
every one of us, to lend a helping hand to the needy ones.
"The Christmas celebration, which is so intimate, familial, warm
and human, does not leave us indifferent to the challenges of today,
when Christians should with their love bear witness to Christ's and
their own commitment to the human life," Bozanic said.
These words are also written in the Shepherd's Letter for the year
of the Great Jubilee, in which Bozanic stresses that the best
announcement at the turn of the new millennium is Jesus Christ.
Let us cherish and promote the gift of life which on Christmas Day
saw the world. "Even when troubles and doubts become very serious,
the Christmas light is strong enough to light the paths of peace,
good and happiness for every man," Bozanic said.
