ZAGREB, Dec 23 (Hina) - On December 22, Belgium introduced systematic check-ups near its borders as part of a new asylum policy, the Belgian Embassy in Zagreb said in a statement on Saturday. As of 26 December, check-ups will be
performed on the border crossings as well. This does not include the re-introduction of the visa regime for Croatian citizens, the statement said. Belgian authorities on Friday stated they would tighten up border control in order to prevent the expected increase of asylum seekers prior to changes to the refugee support system. The Belgian foreign ministry said the new regime would be in effect until January 10.
