ZAGREB, Dec 23 (Hina) - The exemption of a series of cultural activities and services and of donations, sponsorship and grants from the payment of the Value Added Tax (VAT) was the most important event for Croatian Culture Minister
Antun Vujic in 2000. Speaking of priorities in culture in 2001, Minister Vujic told Hina that the most important projects would be the beginning of the construction of the museum of contemporary arts in Zagreb and the adaptation of a company building, constructed in late 18th century, as the museum of contemporary arts in the biggest seaport of Rijeka. He also expects in 2001 the opening of 'Husnjakovo' Museum near Krapina dedicated to early man and that historical age, of the 'Narona' Museum at one of most important ancient Roman archaeological cites in the southern town of Metkovic as well as of the ornithological museum near the mouth of the Neretva River.
ZAGREB, Dec 23 (Hina) - The exemption of a series of cultural
activities and services and of donations, sponsorship and grants
from the payment of the Value Added Tax (VAT) was the most important
event for Croatian Culture Minister Antun Vujic in 2000.
Speaking of priorities in culture in 2001, Minister Vujic told Hina
that the most important projects would be the beginning of the
construction of the museum of contemporary arts in Zagreb and the
adaptation of a company building, constructed in late 18th century,
as the museum of contemporary arts in the biggest seaport of
Rijeka.
He also expects in 2001 the opening of 'Husnjakovo' Museum near
Krapina dedicated to early man and that historical age, of the
'Narona' Museum at one of most important ancient Roman
archaeological cites in the southern town of Metkovic as well as of
the ornithological museum near the mouth of the Neretva River.
Vujic described the latter two museums as significant
counterpoints of the nature and the cultural heritage.
Commenting on the events in 2000, he said important structural
changes had happened. Higher budgetary means were earmarked for
culture and there were also changes in the decision-making process
in this field, he said.
Commenting on the preservation of monuments and buildings of
cultural and historic interest, he said the reconstruction was
completed of the Bishop Palace within the Basilica of St Euphrasius
- one of the most valuable early Christian monuments on Croatian
soil - in the coastal resort of Rovinj. This church was added to the
UNESCO's list of the cultural heritage in 1997.
Vujic was glad to say that the modern library had been opened in the
town of Bjelovar (some 50 kilometres east of Zagreb).
He cited this summer's film festival in the coastal town of Pula as
an exceptionally important event.
Minister held that Croatia's participation in the Frankfurt book
fair this year differed from its appearance in previous years.
In this context he mentioned that his ministry had allocated some 40
million kuna (approximately 10 million German marks) for the
purchase of books.
