RIJEKA SEAMEN, DETAINED IN GREECE, RETURN TO RIJEKA RIJEKA, Dec 7 (Hina) - Four Rijeka seamen, who had been detained in Corinth in Greece, were released and returned to Rijeka on Wednesday night, the Rijeka-based Alpleks agency, which
mediated in their employment, reported last night. Dragoljub Lozica, Mario Baraba, Veljko Kuca and Boris Ivic were detained in Corinth because their passports did not have seals confirming their entry in Italy, i.e. European Union, and were therefore treated as illegal immigrants in Greece. All other necessary documents, including work permits and employment certificates, were in order. The Rijeka seamen spent their first night in detention in a cage standing in the backyard of a Corinth police station. Following an intervention by the Union of Croatian Seamen, International association of transport workers (ITF), and Croatia's Embassy in Greece, they were given more appropriate treatment.(hina) rml
