LJUBLJANA, Dec 6 (Hina) - Croatian police on Wednesday morning
brought Slovene citizen Jozko Joras to the northern Adriatic police
station of Pula for questioning, Slovene radio reported.
Joras is a councillor in Slovene's municipality of Piran, but
resides in Croatia, the village of Mlini, located on the left side
of the Dragonja River, which runs along the Croatian-Slovene
border. Joras refuses to recognise Croatia's sovereignty in the
region, claiming that the border between Croatia and Slovenia has
not yet been defined, and adding that the Plovanija border crossing
is only "a monitoring spot on Slovene territory".
Slovenia fails to recognise the border on that spot due to the
change of the course of the river.
Last week, the Slovene government forwarded a note of protest to the
Croatian Embassy due to alleged disputable proceedings of the
Croatian authorities against Joras during his attempt to import a
washing machine without paying customs tariffs. The Croatian
Embassy refused the note.
In Wednesday morning's phone interview, Jaros told Slovene Radio he
was apprehended at the border crossing by three Croatian police
officers and protested against "forceful restriction of
freedoms".
