ZAGREB SUMMIT ZAGREB, Nov 24 (Hina) - Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel told a news conference after the Zagreb Summit Friday the conference for the first time provided an opportunity for open issues in the region to be solved.
He described as significant the statements by the Serb chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina Zivko Radisic and Yugoslav and Montenegrin presidents Vojislav Kostunica and Milo Djukanovic. Radisic said countries of the region wished to assume responsibility for development by themselves, and not be an international protectorate. Kostunica clearly expressed wish for cooperation with countries in the region, as well as readiness for the fulfilment of UN resolutions. Djukanovic said a solution for the future organisation of Yugoslavia should come about through democratic dialogue, Schuessel said. Austrian Foreign Minister Benita Fererro-Waldner, as chairwoman of
the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe stressed
the issue of return of refugees was important.
Croatia has already done a lot in this field. Yugoslavia and Bosnia-
Herzegovina still have much to do. The process of stabilisation and
association opens a European perspective to countries of the
region, but also commits them to implement values of the EU -- the
development of democracy, protection of human rights,
reconciliation and good neighbourly relations, Waldner said.
