ILOK'S AUTHORITIES SEEK FINAL RETURN OF BORDER ON DANUBE RIVER

ILOK-Politika ILOK'S AUTHORITIES SEEK FINAL RETURN OF BORDER ON DANUBE RIVER ILOK, Nov 20 (Hina) - Authorities in Ilok, a town on the Croatian-Yugoslav border, have warned the Croatian government there still are areas on the eastern border which are outside the territorial integrity of the Croatian state. Ilok authorities have urged the government to establish a borderline between Croatia and Yugoslavia near the island of Sarengrad on the Danube river. In land and cadastral books the island belongs to Croatia. Since last decade's occupation, units of the Yugoslav army have been on the island. To draw attention to the island, a fortnight ago the residents of the village of Sarengrad rallied quietly, telling state authorities the Sarengrad island had always been and should stay an inalienable part of Croatia. Ilok further seeks returning under Croatian jurisdiction about 100 hectares of forest on the land border in the Dugo Cerje and Bobin areas which are currently under Yugoslav army

Ilok's residents have also drawn attention to ecological issues caused by a pig-breeding farm on Yugoslav territory a mere 300 metres off the Croatian border. Liquid waste spilling onto Croatian territory endangers Ilok's vineyards and, residents fear, the water too. (hina) ha jn
