BJELOVAR, Nov 3 (Hina) - Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Friday welcomed today's decision by the government not to propose amendments to the draft constitutional changes, and added he expected parliamentary committees and benches to
deal with the draft. During a visit to Bjelovar-Bilogora County, Mesic said he believed a consensus about constitutional changes could be reached if cooperation existed. Mesic also believes it is necessary to get the issue of constitutional changes off the agenda so that the government could direct its efforts to economic issues. He also believes free zones should be opened as soon as possible with the aim of stimulating foreign investments. Asked to comment on criminal charges against Nevenka Tudjman, the daughter of late President Franjo Tudjman, Mesic said they were proof that the rule of law was functioning and that all were equal before the law.(hina) rml
