VARAZDIN, Oct 24 (Hina) - Two Slovenians suspected of espionage were to be tried before the municipal court in the northern Croatian town of Varazdin on Tuesday, but Judge Igor Pavlic adjourned the hearing due to the failure of the
two to appear. The court will now decide whether to try Anton Slatinsek and Branko Bezgovsek in absentia. Owing to the fact that espionage is considered a confidential state matter, the hearing is be closed to the public. The two Slovenians, who worked for a Slovenian intelligence service, were arrested in Zavrc in 1998, when espionage equipment was found in their van. They were suspended following the arrest. The indictment was altered after the last hearing over a month ago, but it remains unknown what they are charged with at present. On their first appearance in court in Varazdin, both said they would attend trial because they trusted the Croatian judiciary. The
