ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - Zagreb County Court investigating judge Zoran Luburic on Tuesday confirmed he had received a request that a probe be launched against five persons suspected of abuse of office at the Croatian Defence Ministry.
Luburic told Hina the first hearing, at which the suspects would be questioned, would be held soon, after which he would decide whether there was a basis for launching an investigation. Luburic would not comment on the contents of the investigation request, i.e. the suspects' charges. The Zagreb County State Prosecutor's Office last week requested a probe against retired generals Vladimir Zagorac and Matko Kakarigi, retired brigadier Juraj Vojkovic, a former vice-president of the Zagreb City Assembly and president of the Zagreb Chamber of Crafts, Antun Sporer, and an assistant director of the Split-based company 'Aci', Leo Kurent. Zoran Luburic on Tuesday confirmed he had received a request that a
probe be launched against five persons suspected of abuse of office
at the Croatian Defence Ministry.
Luburic told Hina the first hearing, at which the suspects would be
questioned, would be held soon, after which he would decide whether
there was a basis for launching an investigation.

request, i.e. the suspects' charges.
The Zagreb County State Prosecutor's Office last week requested a
probe against retired generals Vladimir Zagorac and Matko
Kakarigi, retired brigadier Juraj Vojkovic, a former vice-
president of the Zagreb City Assembly and president of the Zagreb
Chamber of Crafts, Antun Sporer, and an assistant director of the
Split-based company 'Aci', Leo Kurent. The prosecution is charging
them with abuse of office and powers and abuse of office in business
operations. The law envisages prison sentences of one to ten years
for the criminal acts the suspects are charged with.
General Zagorac is a former assistant defence minister for supply
and former director of the state-owned company 'Alan', which
operated as part of the Defence Ministry. The media have speculated
about the company's illegal activities. General Kakarigi was at the
head of the Department for Construction (and Housing).
The prosecution refused as unfounded the charges against retired
general Ljubo Cesic Rojs. Cesic, who was charged with signing a
harmful contract, is a Bosnian Croat Diaspora deputy at the
Croatian Sabor's House of Representatives.
