ZAGREB, Oct 9 (Hina) - In the period between January and August 2000, a total of 23.4 billion kuna or US$2.785 billion was paid for salaries in Croatia, which is an 8.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The
average net salary paid in August amounted to 3,197 kuna (about US$380), its nominal increase in relation to the average salary paid in the same month last year being 9.1 percent and real increase 3.3 percent, the Payment Operations Bureau (ZAP) reported.

amounted to 3,197 kuna (about US$380), its nominal increase in
relation to the average salary paid in the same month last year
being 9.1 percent and real increase 3.3 percent, the Payment

August average net salaries ranged between 4,621 kuna in the
financial transactions sector, which is 44. 6 percent more than the
national average, to 2,191 kuna in the fishing industry, which is
21.5 percent less than the national average.
The average net salaries which are higher than the national average
were registered in seven branches: financial transactions; public
administration, defence and obligatory health insurance; health
and social care; power, gas and water supply; transport, storage
and communications services; education; and other social and
personal service industries.
The salaries which are below the national average were paid in: the
fishing industry; construction; trade; catering; agriculture;
hunting and forestry; the processing industry; real estate; and
mining and extraction.
The average salary in the private sector amounted to 2,829 kuna,
which is 21.9 percent less than the average net salary in the state
sector and 11.5 percent less than the national average.
The average net salary in the state sector amounted to 3,624 kuna,
which is 13.4 percent more than the national average.
