HOMELAND DEFENCE WAR NEEDS NO AFFIRMATION -- GOTOVAC
ZAGREB, Oct 7 (Hina) - Any discussion on the affirmation of the
Homeland Defence War is unnecessary because this war was affirmed
when its only goal had been fulfilled, which was the establishment
of the Croatian state. president of the Liberal Party (LS) said at
Saturday's Main Committee of the party, one of the six in the ruling
coalition.
Gotovac said recent events shaking the Croatian political scene
showed that the situation in Croatia cannot be completely
controlled by anyone.
The number of open letters forwarded to the Croatian people
recently, both by their content and chronology, indicate a
continuous effort of the former government to portray their own
mistakes as mistakes of the ruling coalition.
"Those who lost power are behaving as if they lost responsibility
along with it, which is inaccurate," Gotovac said.
Speaking about the Croatian President's decision to retire seven
active generals of the Croatian Armed Forces following their
signing of a letter of political nature, Gotovac said Mesic had
chosen the more lenient solution of the two offered to him by the
Constitution.
Members of parliament of the LS are not determined enough, he
asserted.
"Members of Parliament do not serve for raising their hands, but to
participate in discussions. There is no government which would set
frames for MPs which would suspend an MP's right to discussion,"
Gotovac stressed.
He added objections which correlate with objections of the
Opposition were not necessarily opposition objection.
"The truth is our principle and in this sense we must not make any
concessions," LS president said.
Saturday's address to the LS Main Committee is Gotovac's first
public appearance in the past three months, since he withdrew from
public life due to illness.
