HSS BENCH SEEKS DEBATE ON DIGNITY OF HOMELAND DEFENCE WAR

ZAGREB, Oct 6 (Hina) - The bench of the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) on Friday urged that an item be added to the agenda of parliament's ongoing session under the name "Dignity of the Homeland Defence War and the Activity of Bodies of State Authorities of the Republic of Croatia." "We have evaluated the situation calls for the highest body of representatives to address, without any distancing, all controversies occupying the public," HSS bench president Luka Trconic told reporters. He believes a debate, regardless of how polemic, will provide numerous explanations as to the true character of Croatia's early 1990s war of independence from the former Yugoslav federation, and put a full stop to "painful accusations." "We have evaluated the situation calls for the highest body of representatives to address, without any distancing, all controversies occupying the public," HSS bench president Luka Trconic told reporters. He believes a debate, regardless of how polemic, will provide numerous explanations as to the true character of Croatia's early 1990s war of independence from the former Yugoslav federation, and put a full stop to "painful accusations." Trconic is also sure of "careful synchronisation" among the passing of two declarations on the Homeland Defence War in the House of Counties, in which the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party has the majority, the establishment of headquarters for the defence of that war's dignity, a letter by 12 generals calling on opposing the tarnishing of the war, and HDZ's proclamation seeking early elections and that a decision on the retirement of the 12 generals be revoked. "If state and society continue exhausting themselves on disputes over the Homeland Defence War, we shall be left with insufficient time or force to tackle the most topical issue - the social and economic situation," said Trconic. He dismissed with "particular indignation" HDZ's assessment that the incumbent six-party coalition government was communist. (hina) ha jn
