MINE REMOVAL EXPERTS ASK THAT NATIONAL ANTI-MINE PROGRAMME BE AMENDED

ZAGREB, Oct 5 (Hina) - A union gathering Croatian mine removal experts on Thursday requested that changes be made to the National programme of anti-mine activity which would secure decent wages from the budget for mine removal experts. Some 250 mine removal experts are demining Croatia daily for a compensation of several kuna per square metre, said the union's president Antun Vincetic, requesting that mine removal experts working in mine fields be given salaries from the budget amounting to three average salaries in the country. The National anti-mine activity programme, proposed by the Croatian Mine Action Centre, has been sent into parliamentary procedure and should be discussed by the parliament next week. Vincetic said members of the union would distribute leaflets in front of the parliament building urging the deputies not to adopt the programme but request that it be amended. (hina) rml
