ZAGREB, Sept 27 (Hina) - The presidency of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) on Tuesday requested the Croatian National Sabor to relieve HDZ's Ivic Pasalic of duty as Sabor vice-president, HDZ president Ivo Sanader told a news
conference yesterday. Explaining this "difficult decision", Sanader said it was made in line with the political assessment of the party's further consolidation and its regaining its reputation on the political scene. At a session held on September 24, the party presidency unanimously decided to request that Pasalic give up his mandate as a parliamentary vice-president. As Pasalic failed to comply with the request, the party asked the Sabor Presidency that he be relieved of duty. Sanader said he had no ambitions to take Pasalic's place and added he would like to see some of HDZ women deputies be HDZ's new candidate for the position of parliament vice-president.(hina) jn rml
