OSIJEK, Sept 23 (Hina) - If the existent bureaucratic and ownership
problems are solved soon, "Benetton" is likely to start partial
production in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek in the end of
October, said the director of the "Benetton-Croatia" d.o.o.,
Michele Sgobbio, on Saturday.
After his tour, together with Osijek Baranja County Prefect Marko
Bagaric and an MP, Branimir Glavas, of a plant of the "MIO Standard"
company, which is being re-adjusting for the needs of the Benetton
company, Sgobbio, said details of the contract should be concluded
such as the mortgage which commercial banks had over that real
estate.
Benetton would like to become the owner of the plant as it has so far
invested five million German marks for its renovation and is
planning further investments.
Director Sgobbio hoped that issues in relation to the purchase of
the 80 percent of this real estate would be settled the next week,
while the rest should be agreed on with Croatia's Economy Ministry
and Privatisation Fund.
The entire manufacturing process - from the production of material
to the dying of final products - will be carried out in the Osijek-
based plant, the "Benetton-Croatia" d.o.o. reported.
MP Glavas said this factory should employ about 200 workers and
between 1500-2000 sub-contractors, and help solve problems the
textile industry in this county was facing.
