VOCIN, Sept 8 (Hina) - The association of Kosovo Croats "Letnica" in Vocin (eastern Croatia) warned about the difficult position of Croats who had moved from Letnica (Kosovo) to the Vocin area in 1991 and 1992 because of the
Greater-Serbian policy in this southern Yugoslav province. Association representatives told a news conference Friday they felt increasingly insecure. VOCIN, Sept 8 (Hina) - The association of Kosovo Croats "Letnica" in
Vocin (eastern Croatia) warned about the difficult position of
Croats who had moved from Letnica (Kosovo) to the Vocin area in 1991
and 1992 because of the Greater-Serbian policy in this southern
Yugoslav province.
Association representatives told a news conference Friday they
felt increasingly insecure.
Today, seven years after the move, about 1,600 Kosovo Croats are
living in partially destroyed homes of Serb refugees which they had
made liveable through their own efforts and resources.
"Though fully recognising the situation in which the Croatian state
has found itself in, we must warn that we feel increasingly insecure
and dissatisfied with regards to our position. We are placed in an
unfavourable situation with the return of Serb refugees whose right
to private property we do respect, but we are not prepared to move
again to another location with a plastic bag in our hand," secretary
for the association of Kosovo Croats, Djora Djordjevic, said.
The association of Kosovo Croats on Friday sent an appeal to the
Croatian President's Office, Labour and Social Welfare Ministry
and the Ministry for Reconstruction, Construction and Public
Works, requesting an acceleration in the process of buying homes
offered by the Agency for Real-estate Transactions, the
realisation of promised donations in construction materials and
land for the construction of their own homes, and the postponement
of court ordered evictions.
