ZAGREB, Sept 4 (Hina) - The Croatian Farmers' Association (HSS)
head, Ivan Kolar, on Monday described the protest of some 40 farmers

Kolar believed that before staging this protest rally, those
farmers should have used every possibility for talks with the
people responsible for the purchase of wheat.
About 40 farmers set up a blockade on the county road from Lipik via
Poljana to Kutina on Monday morning insisting on the payment of the
wheat they had already handed over. The protest rally was
previously announced by the Association of Farmers of Slavonia and
Baranja.
According to a leader of that association, the protesters will
remove the blockade as soon as they receive the money for the wheat
they sold. They have also insisted that Croatian Agriculture
Minister Bozidar Pankratic give assurances that they will get their
money as soon as possible, or the farmers will expand their
protest.
Kolar said dissatisfaction could be justified but he maintained
that the protest had been premature.
Kolar told Hina he had information that not all possibilities for
the talks between those farmers and responsible factors on this
matter were used.
He added that his association (HSS) was now gathering information
on the payment of the handed wheat on the ground. According to the
data collected so far, there are areas where wheat has been paid
completely but somewhere the payment is incomplete and somewhere
farmers have not yet got a penny for it. As soon as the HSS gains a
thorough insight in the matter, it will make public its stand on the
issue, Kolar announced.
