MARIN BARISIC INSTALLED AS SPLIT-MAKARSKA ARCHBISHOP

SPLIT, Aug 26 (Hina) - The newly-appointed Split-Makarska Archbishop, Marin Barisic, was installed on Saturday at a ceremonial Mass in the Split con-cathredral. Msgr. Marin Barisic, who is the 108th head of the Split-Makarska archdiocese (in the past known as the Solin Church) was appointed by Pope John Paul II on 21 June. Barisic succeeds Ante Juric, who has been the active Archbishop for 12 year in this southern Croatian area. At the beginning of the ceremony of the installation, a papal bull was read. The Pope entrusts Msgr. Barisic with a difficult duty, putting him at the helm of a famous archdiocese. The Holy Father advises him that his action may speak louder than his words in this service. After that, the outgoing Archbishop Juric handed over the bishops' staff to Barisic. At the end of the Mass, Croatia's First Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic, who is the head of the government's commission in charge of the relations with the religious communities, congratulated Barisic on the installation.
