Gratitude Day, August 5, delegations of the Croatian President,
Prime Minister, president of the Croatian National Sabor, the
Defence Ministry, the Interior Ministry, and the City of Zagreb, on
Saturday laid wreaths in front of the Cross of Homeland War Soldiers
at Zagreb's central cemetery of Mirogoj.
After laying wreaths, Prime Minister Ivica Racan said the Day of the
Homeland gratitude was a great day for Croatia and all its
citizens.
"It's a day that symbolises our relationship toward all those who
have contributed to the struggle for Croatia's independence -
particularly in the armed part and the struggle against the Greater
Serbian aggressor in which everyone gave all they had to give",
Racan said.
Adding this was the day when we particularly remember those who gave
the most - their lives, Racan stressed it was up to us to show that
their struggle and sacrifices were not in vain, and to establish
such a Croatia which is going to justify their sacrifice and our
joint struggle for independence.
President's envoys, President's advisor for military issues Imra
Agotic, advisor for national security Zeljko Bagic and head of the
Military Cabinet Kresimir Kaspar, also paid tribute to killed
Croatian Homeland War soldiers on behalf of President Stipe Mesic.
On behalf of the Croatian National Sabor, the wreaths were laid by
president of the Sabor Zlatko Tomcic, vice president Vlatko
Pavletic and Sabor representatives Drazen Budisa and Zvonimir
Sabati.
Apart from Prime Minister Racan, the Croatian Government
delegation also included Foreign Minister Tonino Picula and
Defence Minister Jozo Rados.
The delegation of the Croatian Defence Ministry included Minister
Rados, the head of the main headquarters of the Armed Forces,
General Petar Stipetic, and main inspector of the Croatian Army
ante Gotovina.
On behalf of the Interior Ministry wreaths were laid by deputy
Minister Josip Vresk, assistant Minister Vladimir Fraber and head
of the Zagreb Police Department Ivan Babic.
