ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - The Croatian national parliament's House
of Representatives on Friday evening decided to strip a MP, Dario
Vukic, of his parliamentary immunity, at a request of the Rijeka-
based State Prosecutor's municipal office.
Thus, the lower house made it possible for the State Prosecutor to
instigate criminal procedures against Vukic, a Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) deputy, for having allegedly violated the Company Act.
Following a three-hour-long discussion, the House of
Representatives stripped Vukic, a former director of 'Croatia
Line' company, of his parliamentary immunity, as he failed to
initiate a bankruptcy procedure in the firm when all conditions
were met for such an act.
Vukic said directors of firms who conduct in compliance with
decisions of the incumbent Government would perhaps face a similar
destiny, because he used to act in line with decisions of the former
Government.
Vukic and other HDZ deputies claimed that this was the political
showdown of the new authorities with the HDZ.
