ZAGREB, July 12 (Hina) - The Mandatory Immunity Commission of the
Croatian National Sabor's House of Representatives at Wednesday's
session decided to motion that Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)
representative Darijo Vukic be stripped of his parliamentary
immunity.
Darijo Vukic is a former president of the management of Croatia's
greatest maritime carrier which went bankrupt, Croatia Line.
The State Prosecutor's Office in the northern Adriatic city of
Rijeka recently forwarded to the Sabor a request for the approval of
initiating a criminal procedure against Vukic, because he failed to
start a bankruptcy proceedings in Croatia Line.
Members of the Mandatory Immunity Commission this morning voted
that Darijo Vukic be stripped of his parliamentary immunity. The
only representative against the motion was HDZ representative
Nevio Setic, who said this was a political revenge against the HDZ.
Darijo Vukic held a press conference in Rijeka on Tuesday at which
he said the procedure against him was politically motivated because
the decision passed in early 1999, in line with which the bankruptcy
proceedings would not be initiated, was passed by the former
Government and not him.
