SPLIT:STREET 'ULICA MILE BUDAKA' CHANGES ITS NAME SPLIT, July 7 (Hina) - The councillors of the biggest Croatian coastal city of Split, on Friday decided to change the name of the street "Ulica Mile Budaka" which has caused many
disputes in recent years. The street was named after Mile Budak while the Croatian democratic Union (HDZ) was in power. Those who were in favour of this solution justified their proposal by asserting that Mile Budak was a significant Croatian man-of-letters. Thos who were against having the street named after him recalled that Mile Budak had been a minister in the puppet and pro-Fascist government of the 1941-1945 Independent State of Croatia (NDH). On Friday that street got another name "Ulica Fra Luje Maruna". Friar Lujo Marun (1857-1939) established the Croatian Archaeological Society in 1887 and thanks to him, the first museum of Croatian monuments was founded in the town of Knin in 1893.(hina) jn ms
