ZAGREB ZAGREB, June 22 (Hina) - The 14the world festival of animated films commenced on Wednesday evening in Zagreb with conferring the Life Achievement Award on a famous Czech film-maker, animator and graphic artist, Jan Svankmajer.
During the 21-25 June festival, the audience can see 92 films from 27 countries in the section of competition.
ZAGREB, June 22 (Hina) - The 14the world festival of animated films
commenced on Wednesday evening in Zagreb with conferring the Life
Achievement Award on a famous Czech film-maker, animator and
graphic artist, Jan Svankmajer.
During the 21-25 June festival, the audience can see 92 films from
27 countries in the section of competition.#L#
Most of those films have come from Great Britain (20), the United
States (nine), Canada (seven) and Germany (three). Australia,
Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hungary, Italy,
Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands are represented by
either one or two animated cartoons.
Croatia's films are "In/dividu" by Nicole Hewitt and "Film s
Djevojcicom (Film With a Girl)" by Daniel Suljic.
The Grand Prix amounts to 20,000 kuna (approximately 5,000 German
marks). Other awards are 10,000 kuna (2,500 marks) and the award for
the first film of an author.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the international
organisation of animated films (ASIFA), the ASIFA President,
Michel Ocelot, addressed the present at the opening of the festival
in Zagreb.
The festival was opened by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic.
