I hope Croatia would soon manage to persuade businessmen across the
world it was determined in the struggle against corruption Michael
Wiehen of the Transparency International told a press conference
Monday.
Croatia's branch of the Transparency International deals with the
role of legislature in the prevention of corruption, financing of
campaigns of political parties and other issues.
Wiehen said that according to the evaluation of the association,
the majority of other countries in transition were less corrupted
than Croatia. Some will say that the evaluation was not objective,
but this is a perception of businessmen, and it must be taken
seriously, he added.
Head of the Office of the European Commission for the prevention of
corruption Franz Bruener said the Croatian Government confessed
the problem of corruption, adding this was the first step in the
struggle.
Croatia should soon join the convention for the Organisation for
Economic Cooperation and Development's struggle against
corruption. Such thing would be a sign of the Croatian Government's
determination to stop the corruption, said the head of Zagreb's
branch of Transparency International, Josip Kregar.
