MONUMENT TO MARULIC ERECTED IN BERLIN

BERLIN BERLIN, May 20 (Hina) - Final works were done on the set-up of the monument to a famous Croatian writer, Marko Marulic (1450-1524), in Berlin. The monument was erected in the square "Platz vor der Kommunalen Galerie" in the district of Wilmersdorf. This work of a Croatian sculptor, Slavomir Drinkovic, is the present of Marulic's hometown Split and Berlin Croats to Wilmersdorf with which the Croatian coastal city of Split is furthering close cooperation. The monument will be unveiled at 11:00 am 27 May, as part of celebrations of the 550th anniversary of the birth of Marulic, the founding father of the Croatian literature. Marko Marulic, also called "Croatia's Dante", was born on August 18, 1450, and died on January 5, 1524. He was the first well-known Croatian man-of-letters who wrote poetry in Croatian.
