ZAGREB, May 11 (Hina) - The Croatian government, which this year will grant 19.7 million kuna (US$2.3 million) for the programmes of national minorities, established at a session on Thursday how the funds would be allocated. The funds
will be used for financing the programmes of non-government organisations and minority institutions in the fields of information, publishing, amateur culture and events. Of the total amount, 17.96 million kuna (US$2.13 million) will be allocated directly to minority associations and institutions. Most funds will be given to Serb minority associations and institutions (5.3 million kuna or US$631,000), to the Italian minority (little less than four million kuna or US$476,000), the Hungarian minority (2.4 million kuna or US$286,000) and the Czech minority (1.6 million kuna or US$190,000). associations and institutions of the Ruthanian and Ukrainian
minorities, Slovaks, Muslims-Bosniaks, Slovenes, Albanians,
Montenegrins, Macedonians, Jews, Germans, Austrians and
Romanies.
A total of 672,000 kuna will be used for covering the debts of
minority institutions. This refers to the Italian minority's
newspaper and publishing institution 'Edit' from Rijeka, which
will be given 432,000 kuna for covering last year's losses, and to
the Czech minority and their institution 'Jednota' from Daruvar,
which will be granted 240,000 kuna for covering losses incurred
over the past three years.
A total of 19.17 million kuna of budgetary funds were earmarked for
minority associations and institutions last year.
