HRVACE, May 5 (Hina) - Wolves which are a protected species in Croatia, have in the past several days been entering villages and attacking dogs in the Sinj area in South Croatia. On Thursday night a pack of wolves came into the Hrvace
village, and attacked and killed a dog. Several days earlier a pack also attacked and heavily injured a dog in the Sarici village. In the past two years in the same area wolves brought great damage to villagers, killing several dozen sheep, goats, donkeys and calves. Wolves have been protected by law in Croatia since 1998 when there were only 50 of them, while thirty years ago their numbers varied between 600 and 1,000.(hina) lml jn
