ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - Chairman of the International Committee for Missing Persons (ICMP), US Senator Bob Dole, on Friday donated a million dollars worth DNA analysis apparatus to the Zagreb University Hospital, to facilitate the identification of remains of victims of the Homeland War. This donation is important to the mothers and families of missing persons. It is not about politics, but about the fulfilment of needs and dignity, Dole said after a tour of the Hospital's Forensics Institute. He said he had had similar experience after the Vietnam war, when he had been the bearer of bad news, but had assisted to bring about the end of the war and restoration of peace. On behalf of US President Bill Clinton and State Secretary Madeleine Albright Dole said the United States would help bring the tragedy to a close and mothers continue with their lives. Croatian Health Minister Ana Stavljenic-Rukavina stressed a part of the donation was also the training of personnel who will work in three laboratories in Croatia. Rukavina said when the three laboratories complete their work identifying the war victims, they will continue working for health purposes. Dole, who is on a two-day visit to Croatia, earlier in the day met representatives of missing persons, First Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic and Parliament vice-presidents Zdravko Tomac, Vlatko Pavletic and Baltazar Jalsovec. Dole visited Croatia as chairman of the ICMP since 1997 several times. (hina) lml jn
