The spread of Internet services among individuals in Croatia is
between five to 5.5 percent, which is satisfactory considering the
overall economic situation in the country, and in comparison with
economically stronger Austria, which realised the same percentage
in 1998, head in the Croatian Telecommunications (HT) sector for
special services Zarko Sutlar told reporters last week.
In the first three months of this year, the number of Hinet
subscribers increased by 30,000, which demonstrates that HT
Internet services are at the level of Internet services in
developed countries, Sutlar said.
Prices of Internet services are the lowest in the United States and
the average time on the net is 60 minutes per user, while in European
countries is 25 minutes per user. Users in Croatia spend 22 minutes
on the net on average, while the average in Germany is 14 minutes,
Sutlar stressed.
He announced that the Croatian days of the Internet would be held in
the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka on May 17 and 18. The event is
organised by the HT in cooperation with Multilink and Microsoft
Croatia.
