ICTY OFFICIAL: REMAINS OF AT LEAST ONE PERSON FOUND NEAR GOSPIC

GOSPIC GOSPIC, April 25 (Hina) - Steve Chambers, head of a team of Hague experts investigating the possible killing of Serb civilians in the Gospic area in 1991, told reporters on Tuesday the investigators have found the skeletal remains of at least one person. Speaking at a news conference on the course of exhumations in Obradovici Varos near Gospic, where Hague investigators have been working, with short breaks, for the third week, Chambers said the investigations carried out so far had yielded at least one skeleton, but he could not confirm whether the location in question contained more victims. Reporters were allowed to visit the location today. Asked whether investigations would continue on those locations which are suspected of hiding the bodies of Croat victims, such as Siroka Kula, Chambers said he had been informed of it by the local police forces, but was not authorised to give a statement on that. Participating in the Gospic investigations are also Croatian judicial officials and Lika-Senj County police. The investigating judge of the Gospic County Court, Pavao Rukavina, said "a certain number of skeletons, in any case more than one, have been found." "I expect that this part of the investigation will be completed by Friday, but I am not acquainted with investigative activities on some other locations in this area," Rukavina said. The exhumation site in Obradovici Varos was also visited by the president of the Government Commission for Missing and Imprisoned Persons, Ivan Grujic. (hina) rml
