SARAJEVO, April 22 (Hina) - The premier of Bosnia-Herzegovina's
(BH) Croat-Muslim Federation on Saturday confirmed he had tendered
his resignation to the office.
"I handed the resignation to the premier's post to (BH Presidency
chairman, Alija) Izetbegovic after the last session of the
Federation of BH parliament's House of Representatives,"
Federation Premier Edhem Bicakcic told BH Television's central
evening news.
Bicakcic said his resignation was prompted by the fact that MPs of
the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) had not attended a
parliamentary session which was to decide on changes in the
Federation's government, which had been marked as imperative.
"This means that the ruling party obstructs the work of the
government it itself has elected," Bicakcic said, adding this also
referred to MPs representing the Coalition for Integral and
Democratic BH, which he said should also support his government.
The Federation's premier said a situation of that kind limited his
work possibilities because, he added, the government cannot
function without parliament's support.
Answering a reporter's question, Bicakcic said he "has not
considered" the possibility of becoming a member of BH's Council of
Ministers.
Since recent municipal elections, at which SDA fared very badly,
the media in Sarajevo have been consistently speculating about
Bicakcic's possible replacement. Bicakcic's own statement on
television was the first confirmation of those claims.
It is believed the final decision on whether Bicakcic will be
replaced depends on the position SDA's Head Committee should take
at an April 28 session.
